Bacon, by any other name, tastes just as good! I know firsthand, from covering the 3rd Annual Bacon Fest, held at Docker's Tavern in Riverton, Illinois. Who knew there could be so many amazing ways to prepare an old breakfast stand-by! As a matter of fact, breakfast is the one type of food that wasn't really there. Bacon fried ice cream, however, was!
Over 100 people came just to try the food!
The trophies were donated by Rich and Cindy Pottier of KNR Awards. You just have to appreciate the beauty of a bacon themed trophy!
You got to try every dish, all for only $1! It was amazing, and people definitely got their money's worth. I was impressed by the balancing acts!
The line was huge, Docker's was packed! Next year, it will be held at a warmer time of year, outdoors. You can your own brown sugar maple cured bacon here in the meantime.
Aerial view of the tavern, and its 20-something foot bacon buffet in action!
Twice baked bacon stuffed baby red potatoes and bacon wrapped shrimp were just two of the amazing dishes being judged.
I had a great time covering the event, and I hope they call me back again next year! Now... to go into the kitchen and work on my bacon game!
