New Year, New Look! If you are thinking of updating your home this spring, here are the new trends!
Blogs and magazines like Elle, Houzz, Country Home and StyleCaster say that a few trends will be sticking around, but as we tend to stay home more often these days, money is being spent on making our homes our personal retreats. A special place to relax and get away, all your own!
Scandinavian clean lines and natural fibers are sticking around, with black and white botanical art becoming huge in 2018. "It lets you use color in your textiles and walls, blending everything together in harmony" says Nikki Anna, interior design writer for Houzz. "More color on the walls and accessories, mixed with monochromatic art prints lends a feel of sophistication and style."
Small prints clustered with larger ones to create a gallery wall is still in - but mix up those frames! Choose different styles and paint them one color, for an interesting feel that draws people in to look at your art pieces.
Art in small frames in the bedroom or tucked onto side tables for that "extra touch", says Anna. "You can even frame a beautiful greeting card. The effort will be noticed!"
Another big trend in art for 2018? Beautiful things that are also functional. A large photographic calendar to help keep track of appointments, artistic printed fabric curtains, storage that is also art.
One last decor trend to note for 2018, is sliding barn doors are out.
"Architectural elements should be cohesive with the style of your home," says Lauren Liess, interior designer and host of HGTV's Best House on the Block. Instead, incorporate barn themed accessories or art into your decor. Bright, bold country themed prints are coming into style this year.
